Epson has launched a new printer model (Expression Home XP-345 Printer Review) in the United Kingdom to replace the slightly older XP-335 model.  Has Epson made any changes in the new release, or are they identical printers?

Since it was launched last year, the Epson Expression Home XP-335 printer has typically scored 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5; fine for an inkjet printer at this price, around £50.

The printers technology appears identical. Both have the same amount of print head nozzles, 180 black, and 59 per colour.  The minimum droplet size is the same at 3pl.  The printing resolution is identical at 5760 x 1440 dpi for both machines.  They also use the same ink cartridges, Claria™ Home Ink Strawbery 29.

Claimed print speeds are 10 pages/min Monochrome, 4.5 pages/min Colour for the new XP-345 instead of 9 pages/min Monochrome, 4.5 pages/min Colour.  So slightly faster black and white printing with the new model.

The scanning statistics seem to be different?  On the new XP-345 model 10 pages/min Monochrome, 4.5 pages/min Colour compared to 600 DPI 7.2 msec/line; 300 DPI 2.4 msec/line on the older Xp-335 printer.  The scanning resolution is identical at 1200dpi x 2400dpi.  The scanner type on both is Contact image sensor (CIS).

The paper handling statistics are identical however media handling now includes borderless print and manual duplex.

Energy use is the same at 13 Watts, and 1.6 Watts sleep mode.  The height of the case is 1mm taller at 146mm on the new XP-345, however, the width (390mm), and depth (300mm) are identical. The new XP-345 is 100g heavier at 4.3kg.  The noise levels are identical at 36db for both machines.  Windows 10 has been added to the specification on the XP-345, however, drivers are also available for the XP-335.  Connection methods and interfaces are identical.  WLAN Security seems identical.  Mobile and Cloud printing services are listed identical.  Everything included in the box is identical except that a warranty document is added inside the new XP-345 packaging.

The LCD screen size is the same at 3.7cm, as are the memory card slots.  An added feature for the new XP-345 is Red-eye removal, Photo Enhance.  Warranty is 12 months Carry in for both models.
